Kevin Gausman of the San Francisco Giants and Sean Manaea of the Oakland Athletics have been key cogs in their team’s success this season. But both enter Saturday’s Bay Area showdown struggling.
Gausman has allowed at least three runs in three of his last six starts, with two of the better starts coming against the light-hitting Arizona Diamondbacks. Manaea has allowed batters to hit .277 in Oakland compared to .222 in his road starts.
The Athletics have pitched worse at home (3.75 ERA compared to 3.55 on the road), while the Giants lead the majors with 1.7 home runs per game. They have nine players with at least 13 homers.
The Athletics entered the series having allowed at least four runs in five of their previous seven games and five of Gausman’s past six starts have gone over the total, so runs should be plentiful in Oakland on Saturday.
The play: Giants-Athletics total, Over 8.5 runs.
