The bad news kept coming for the Mets on Friday.
Javier Baez was placed on the 10-day injured list with back spasms, the team announced shortly before opening a critical series against the Dodgers at Citi Field.
Baez’s IL stint came shortly after manager Luis Rojas revealed that Jacob deGrom would be should down two more weeks.
Since exiting Sunday’s game in Philadelphia with what was described as hip tightness — and later lower-back tightness — Baez had not started. He did pinch-hit Wednesday and struck out on three pitches, but had not seen enough improvement to get back into the lineup.
Baez was the Mets’ big trade deadline acquisition, batting .171 with two home runs in 10 games since coming over from the Cubs.
