Grisly photos surfaced Thursday that reveal the bloody aftermath of the unprovoked hatchet attack that took place in a Lower Manhattan bank lobby.
The images, shot just moments after the horrifying incident, show the 51-year-old victim sitting dazed on the sidewalk outside a Chase branch in the Financial District, his face and shirt covered in gore as a first responder leans in to speak with him.
Other photos show paramedics wrapping his injured head in gauze and loading him into an ambulance.
The scene unfolded following a caught-on-camera incident during which the man was attacked without warning while using an ATM around 5:20 p.m. Sunday by an assailant who repeatedly whacked him on the leg and head with a hatchet.
The suspect has been identified as Aaron Garcia, 37, a US Army veteran whose mom told The Post that he began suffering from “pure madness” following his discharge.
Garcia allegedly escaped after the hatchet attack but was busted by cops who caught him allegedly smashing the windows of parked cars and storefronts in Chelsea around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Garcia has been charged with attempted murder and assault, and was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
