Suspect who allegedly killed tow truck driver in gunfight charged: cops

The teen who allegedly fatally shot a tow truck driver in the Bronx last week has been charged in connection to the slaying, cops said.

Angel Medina, 18, was arguing about a vehicle repair with the 32-year-old driver, John Vallejo, inside First Choice Automotive on Randall Avenue near Bryant Avenue in Hunts Point on Aug. 17 when Medina pulled out a gun and fired several times, striking the victim in the torso, according to cops and sources.

Vallejo returned fire, hitting the teen in the arm and torso, police said.

The tow truck driver was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center.

Medina was held in police custody at the hospital and ultimately charged Tuesday with manslaughter, attempted murder and criminal possession of a loaded firearm, cops said.

It was unclear whether Vallejo was affiliated with the shop.
