Henri appeared set to narrowly miss Long Island in terms of landfall and pass just off the tip by midday, according to Accuweather.
But the storm, which was downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane early Sunday, has already drenched the Big Apple in rain and some flooding and is set to deliver potentially devastating ocean surges to coastal neighborhoods.
Late Saturday, Central Park saw a record-breaking hour of rainfall, the most in more than 150 years, and early Sunday, drivers in Brooklyn were forced to abandon their cars and wade through waist-deep flooding as the storm edged closer to the five boroughs.
Henri is set to make landfall in Rhode Island by early Sunday afternoon and then stall near the Connecticut-New York border by evening.
